The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday heard a Measure Z spending plan that would shift more guaranteed money to county departments, raise fire funding toward $1.5 million and add an ongoing $200,000 for Fortuna’s school resource officer.
County staff and the Measure Z advisory committee laid out spending options for fiscal years 2027-28 through 2029-30 during the July 7 meeting. According to the meeting summary, the committee-backed proposal would increase guaranteed support for county departments, reduce the amount available for annual competitive applications and reserve a continuing allocation for the Fortuna school resource officer.
The agenda packet identified the item as the “MZ Spending Plan 27-30 Recommendations for Committee” attachment. A transcript summary of the meeting says supervisors heard public debate over competing priorities, including fire service funding and school-police spending, but the record available here does not show whether the board took final action on the Measure Z item.
The summary says the board approved the consent calendar by a 4-0 vote, with Supervisor Steve Madrone absent, and recognized retiring DHHS eligibility specialist Mike Hendrix for 21 years of service. Supervisors also appointed three at-large members to the Forestry Review Committee.
