Ferndale officials are considering a special City Council meeting during the first week of November to review a PG&E Microgrid Incentive Program grant award and decide whether to formally accept the funding.

The recommendation is included in the Ferndale City Council’s Oct. 21 meeting packet. The proposed meeting date would depend on council availability, and the packet does not establish a specific date or say that the grant has been accepted.

City Manager Kristene Hall wrote that she and Councilman Skip Jorgensen have continued meeting with representatives of OurEnergy about the award, the proposed project, its potential community benefits and the responsibilities tied to accepting the funding. The PG&E program offers grant opportunities for eligible community microgrid projects intended to improve electrical reliability and resilience, according to the packet.

Before any commitment, city staff said the council needs to examine the project’s scope, financial obligations, implementation requirements and the city’s potential long-term responsibilities. OurEnergy representatives may be invited to the special meeting to answer questions about the proposed project and grant requirements.

The packet does not provide the grant amount, matching-fund requirements or full award terms. A final acceptance decision also remains pending.
