Sutter County’s fire-station brownouts were expected to end later in the week after newly hired firefighters came on board, Fire Services Manager/Chief Kyle Long told the Board of Supervisors on Sept. 8.
According to the Board’s meeting minutes, Long said critically low staffing had caused rolling brownouts, in which stations may be temporarily unavailable. The minutes do not identify the number or locations of affected stations, the number of hires or whether the brownouts ended as projected.
County Administrator Steven M. Smith described the staffing and funding issue as a safety matter, the minutes say. The meeting agenda packet listed a Sutter County Fire Station Brownouts update under Long’s department appearance.
The update provides an expected restoration timeline, but does not establish that fire coverage had returned to normal after the meeting.
