Sutter County’s Community Corrections Partnership is facing a projected $6.35 million shortfall in its public-safety realignment budget for fiscal year 2026-27, according to the partnership’s Oct. 27 agenda packet.

The forecast estimates $6.06 million in revenue and $12.41 million in expenditures for the fiscal year, creating an estimated deficit of $6.35 million. Jail services are the largest projected expense category, at about $8.61 million. The packet also projects additional gaps in each of the following two fiscal years, based on current estimates.

The jail-services projection includes $6 million for a jail air-conditioning build, according to the packet. The Sutter County Board of Supervisors’ Oct. 13 agenda materials say the county had previously increased appropriations by $6 million for the County Jail Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Project and was seeking design proposals for replacement of the Medium Jail’s HVAC units.

The documents do not say how the projected shortfall would be covered, whether county General Fund money would be needed or how much of the jail-services estimate represents one-time capital spending rather than recurring costs. The agenda packet also does not establish whether the CCP adopted, changed or merely discussed the forecast at its Oct. 27 meeting.
