A Rio Dell resident used the May 19 City Council meeting to press for records and oversight material tied to Miranda’s Rescue, asking city officials to make public any complaints previously received, site visit reports and other documentation related to the city’s contract with the animal rescue.
According to the meeting minutes, public commenter Jay Carmona also asked for information on how many Rio Dell animals may have been affected and called for a community memorial for animals lost. She urged the council to discuss how to better protect animals going forward and requested that the matter be placed on a future agenda.
The minutes do not say whether the council or staff committed to releasing records or scheduling the item. They do show that the council heard the comment during the public presentations portion of the meeting, which also included an unrelated proclamation for Older Americans Month and other regular business.
Miranda’s Rescue is described in the minutes as the subject of an ongoing investigation and contract-related accountability concerns.
