Arcata City Council members approved a $1,696,650 construction contract for the First Street Lift Station Improvement Project and adopted a categorical CEQA exemption after Vice Mayor Atkins-Salazar asked to remove the item from the consent calendar for separate discussion.

According to the June 17 council minutes, the council then voted unanimously to award the contract to Wahlund Construction Inc. and approve the related project actions. The minutes list Director of Environmental Services Sinkhorn as the presenter.

The agenda packet also identified the item as a proposed award for the lift station project at the First Street site. The project materials place the facility in Arcata’s wastewater system, with supporting agenda information listing the contract award amount before the council vote.

The lift station award was one of several utility and public works actions taken at the June 17 meeting, alongside approvals for other wastewater-related contracts and a valve purchase for the same project. Council also adopted the city’s fiscal year 2026-27 budget, set the appropriations limit, and placed Measure G renewal on the November ballot.
