Arcata’s City Council adopted the Humboldt County Regional Climate Action Plan as the city’s climate plan at its May 6 meeting, while also approving emergency procurement and reserve spending to repair failed culverts at 4700 West End Road.
The council’s climate vote came after staff presented the regional plan as a framework for city policy. According to the council meeting summary, the plan was adopted in Resolution No. 256-51, making the Humboldt County Regional Climate Action Plan Arcata’s Climate Action Plan and including CEQA findings.
For the culvert repair, city staff said the work at 4700 West End Road was urgent enough to justify emergency procurement and reserve spending. The meeting summary says the council authorized the repair and treated the project as CEQA-exempt. Staff estimated the work would not exceed $200,000, after an initial estimate of $300,000 to $500,000.
The council also received a staff update on Measure G, Arcata’s transactions and use tax. Finance Director Nature Catchery said the tax has generated about $39 million since 2009, with roughly $21.5 million spent on streets and $17.5 million on public safety, according to the meeting summary. Staff said the city is considering a renewal measure for the Nov. 3, 2026 ballot, along with an advisory question tied to road funding.
The council did not take action on the Measure G briefing during the meeting.
The May 6 session also included proclamations for Older Americans Month and National Historic Preservation Month, plus other consent items and a scheduled budget study session for May 13.
