Humboldt County supervisors are scheduled Aug. 11 to take up two land-use policy items that could affect housing and tree protection in the county.
One item is a public hearing on amendments to the county’s coastal density bonus regulations, including repeal of Ordinance 2777 and adoption of a new ordinance intended to align with requirements from the California Coastal Commission. The agenda summary says staff are recommending adoption of a resolution and ordinance and notice to the commission after the board acts.
A separate board-initiated item would direct staff to revise the lower Redway Q-Zone rules, with stronger definitions, reporting requirements and prohibitions on tree-damaging activities, while also exploring a broader ordinance to protect old-growth trees outside the lower Redway zone.
The agenda summary does not say how supervisors plan to vote on either item, and it does not describe any final amendments to the draft language. It also does not quantify how many properties or projects could be affected by the coastal changes.
