The Big Lagoon School District Board of Trustees adopted the district’s 2026-27 budget, Local Control and Accountability Plan, Education Protection Account spending plan and local indicators at its June 12 meeting, according to the board minutes.
The minutes say Superintendent Cathie Shermer presented the LCAP, budget, EPA plan and local indicators, and that trustees approved the annual documents. The board also discussed possible campus safety upgrades, including motion-sensor lights and security cameras for times when staff are alone on campus. Shermer said she would report back later.
Closed-session stipend approvals totaled $6,050, including payments for Cathie Shermer, Olivia Murphy, Sabriyya Ghanizada and Rebecca Lawrence, the minutes say. The board also recorded that Olivia Murphy has accepted a full-time teaching position for 2026-27.
The meeting opened with a flag salute and land acknowledgement recognizing the Yurok peoples and their continuing relationship to the land where Big Lagoon School sits. No public comment was offered, according to the minutes.
The June 12 agenda had listed action on the LCAP, budget, EPA plan and local indicators, and the approved minutes show those items were taken up as scheduled. The minutes do not provide cost estimates for the proposed safety upgrades or say whether the board will seek bids or authorize purchases.
