Big Lagoon School District trustees unanimously approved the district’s 2026-27 budget, Local Control and Accountability Plan, Education Protection Account spending plan and 2025-26 local indicators at their June 12 meeting.
According to the approved minutes, Principal/Superintendent Cathie Shermer presented the proposed budget and the LCAP, while board members also reviewed the district’s local indicators tied to the California Dashboard. Theresa Murphy Hall moved to approve the LCAP, Brooke Hearon moved to approve the budget, Marjorie Adler moved to approve the EPA spending plan, and Adler also moved to approve the local indicators; each motion was seconded and passed unanimously.
The minutes say Shermer told trustees the district is not currently anticipating EPA revenue, but if it receives any, it would be spent exclusively on teacher salaries and benefits. During the LCAP discussion, trustees also talked about school safety and the possibility of getting estimates for motion sensor lights and security cameras.
The meeting began with a closed session in which trustees approved personnel stipends, including payments for teaching duties, yearbook help and professional development. The minutes say Olivia Murphy was also offered a full-time teaching position for 2026-27 and accepted it.
The meeting was held June 12 in Big Lagoon School Room 2 and was also available online via Google Meet. The district’s minutes say public records tied to the meeting could be inspected at the District Office at 269 Big Lagoon Park Rd. in Trinidad.
