The Shasta Lake City Council is set to consider authorizing an application for up to $500,000 in planning funds for a proposed community resilience center, according to the city’s Aug. 4 agenda packet.
The staff report says the city would pursue Round 2 planning money through the California Strategic Growth Council’s Community Resilience Centers Program and would do so with the Redding Rancheria and YMCA as partners. The proposed planning area is near Shasta Dam Boulevard and Cascade Boulevard.
The report frames the item as a planning step, not a construction decision. It says the resolution would authorize the city to apply for, accept and administer grant funds, but it does not settle future site control, ownership, operating responsibilities or whether the project will ultimately be built.
The agenda packet describes resilience centers as places that could help provide shelter, services and emergency resources during events such as heat, wildfire smoke and power outages. A later staff report would be needed to settle questions such as a preferred site, capital cost and partner agreements.
The grant item is one of several decisions on the Aug. 4 agenda, which also includes a community center fee update and the quarterly cash and investment report.
The planning-grant item is scheduled as a public council decision. The packet does not show whether council members have already acted on it.
