Arcata voters are scheduled to decide Nov. 3, 2026, whether to renew Measure G, a local transaction-and-use tax that city staff told the City Council has generated approximately $39 million since collections began in 2009.
The update came during the council’s Oct. 7 meeting from Assistant City Manager and Finance Director Tabatha Miller and City Engineer Netra Khatri. The official meeting minutes record that the council received the Measure G update; the meeting recording contains the staff presentation and discussion.
According to Miller’s presentation, about $21.5 million — roughly 55% of the reported collections — went to streets, while $17.5 million supported public safety. Staff said Measure G funding has helped pay for street, sidewalk, bicycle-path and multimodal transportation work, including the Samoa Gateway Improvement project, Foster Avenue Extension, Arcata Bicycle Boulevard, Humboldt Bay Trail and Old Arcata Road rehabilitation. Staff also said the tax has helped stabilize police and public-safety staffing.
The city’s presentation described the renewal language as continuing those priorities, including public-safety staffing, pothole repair, maintenance and repair of streets and sidewalks, multi-use trails and bicycle paths, and expanded multimodal circulation. Staff said the proposed renewal would not have an expiration date and would remain in effect unless voters removed it.
Those terms were presented to the council by city staff. The meeting materials reviewed for this story do not establish the tax rate or projected annual revenue, and the city and Humboldt County Elections should be consulted for the certified ballot filing and voter-information materials.
