Shasta County supervisors are being asked to approve a retroactive agreement with Paradigm Clinical Solutions to manage medical care for a severely injured county employee.
The staff report on the board’s July 14 consent calendar says the agreement would run from April 8 through Oct. 7, 2026, and would not exceed $292,400. It says the county’s Support Services Risk Management Division was referred to Paradigm by PRISM, which recommended the company as a sole provider for the complex claim.
According to the report, Paradigm has already been managing the case and has a case manager consulting with the worker’s family and medical providers. Staff said the arrangement is intended to keep the employee’s care coordinated while treatment continues.
The report says the county is self-insured for the first $250,000 of the claim, with PRISM covering costs above that threshold through excess workers’ compensation insurance. It also says there would be no additional General Fund impact, and that any costs and recovery tied to the claim will be reflected in future Risk Management rates for the affected department.
County Counsel, Risk Management, the Auditor Controller and the County Administrative Office all reviewed the recommendation, and staff said the board could instead direct Risk staff to manage care directly, though that option was not recommended.
