Shasta County supervisors are being asked to approve a letter ending the county’s lease with the City of Redding for property tied to the Community Reentry Center Project and to consider forming a small ad hoc committee to look for alternate sites.
According to a Sept. 15 staff report, the lease covers property at 7251 Eastside Road in Redding and 7051 Eastside Road in Anderson. The report says the project was approved under the lease in August 2025, but Sheriff’s Office leadership announced on Aug. 5, 2026, that environmental constraints meant the project would not proceed at the leased site.
After that announcement, the board directed staff to return with a lease-termination letter, and staff are now recommending that supervisors approve it. The same report asks the board to consider an ad hoc committee made up of three to five county staff members to evaluate alternate sites before any future board action.
The staff report cites the National Institute of Government Procurement’s ethical procurement guidance, saying site evaluation should be separated from site-selection approval to avoid conflicts of interest or the appearance of impropriety.
The report says the county would not face any additional general-fund impact beyond staff time already covered in the fiscal 2026-27 budget.
