The Shasta County Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution Oct. 27 making John Heath’s interim appointment as Public Works Director permanent, effective Oct. 28. The appointment also includes the duties of county road commissioner and county surveyor, according to the adopted resolution.
The board held a public hearing on Heath’s qualifications before adopting the resolution. Heath had served as interim public works director since May 3, according to the resolution, which says he was selected through a competitive recruitment process and met the qualifications for the three roles.
His compensation is set at the E-step of the established salary range: $98.91 per hour, or $17,144 per month. The county staff report says the salary and benefit expenses are included in the current fiscal year 2026-27 budget and will be included in subsequent proposed budgets, resulting in no additional General Fund impact.
The available resolution does not identify the actual vote tally. Its sections for ayes, noes, absences, abstentions and recusals contain X placeholders. Details of comments from the qualifications hearing were not included in the available record.
