Emergency work on the Eureka Slough Bridges was expected to reach a key milestone by Oct. 15, according to a Sept. 17 Humboldt County Association of Governments meeting record.
During the meeting's Caltrans report, agency representative Tatiana Ahlstrand said Myers Construction was continuing to build a temporary trestle across the channel. The trestle will support repairs to the foundation at Pier 7, and the trestle and in-water repair work were expected to be completed by Oct. 15.
The record also says Caltrans was closing the southbound No. 2, or slow, lane Monday through Friday from about 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for traffic control. Additional structure investigations are planned to determine whether more repairs are needed, but the record does not give a firm timeline for that work or the investigations.
Caltrans described the emergency project as separate from the major project to replace the Eureka Slough Bridges. That replacement project was targeting Project Approval and Environmental Document in November, according to the meeting record. The record does not provide project costs, funding details or a final replacement design.
