Cal Poly Humboldt will continue funding Humboldt Transit Authority’s evening Arcata service through approximately mid-December, according to a report at the Humboldt County Association of Governments’ Oct. 15 meeting. The extension followed public pressure, the report said.
The longer-term future of the 7–10 p.m. service remains unresolved and is expected to be discussed by HTA in November. The available meeting record does not establish that a cut will occur.
The update comes as HTA reports more than 650,000 rides annually and works toward 30-minute service intervals in more locations, according to the Oct. 15 meeting report. The evening service is used by students and other riders, but the record does not include the service’s current ridership, annual cost or funding split.
At HCAOG’s Sept. 17 meeting, HTA reported that ridership had exceeded pre-pandemic levels for the first time in the previous fiscal year. The agency also discussed transit costs and subsidies, while a temporary hydrogen-fueling station was down and HTA was seeking another temporary fueler. That issue was discussed in the context of Southern Humboldt routes; the available records do not establish that it affects the Arcata evening service.
