Fortuna’s City Council unanimously chose a new operating direction for Fortuna Transit on Feb. 2, directing staff to open the service to the general public, recruit a full-time transit supervisor and move ahead with RideCo scheduling and call-center support.
According to the meeting agenda and minutes, the council selected staff’s Option B for the transit program. Supporting meeting materials say the option shifts Fortuna Transit away from a more restricted local model and toward same-day public service.
The council also asked staff to return with a progress report in fiscal year 2027-28. Meeting materials cited an estimated general-fund impact of about $35,000 annually for the new model.
The transit item came during a broader meeting that also included budget, housing and zoning actions. A meeting transcript summary posted in the archive of the Feb. 2 council meeting says staff and council discussed how the transit changes could affect riders, staffing and future transit funding decisions, and noted coordination with the Humboldt Transit Authority.
The council’s transit vote was unanimous among the four members present, according to the meeting records.
