The Assembly Transportation Committee advanced AB 2761 on a reported 16-0 vote Tuesday, sending the bill to the Appropriations Committee.
The measure would direct the California Highway Patrol to create a single statewide electronic crash-reporting system and require local agencies to use it. In presenting the bill, the author said it would modernize California’s crash data system, improve roadway safety and give law enforcement and safety officials timely, accurate information. The committee hearing recording also shows the author saying the proposal is consistent with a federal grant the state has already received to help fund the modernization effort.
AAA was cited in support during the hearing, while the transcript and hearing summary indicate the committee later reported the bill out of committee.
The bill now moves to Appropriations for further review.
