Sutter County’s Health and Welfare Committee is recommending that the Board of Supervisors approve a first amendment to the county’s temporary health officer coverage agreement with Dr. Gail Newel, extending the arrangement through Dec. 31, 2026 and increasing the contract maximum to $160,000.

The amendment is listed on the committee’s Aug. 18 agenda packet, which identifies Newel as the contractor for the temporary health officer agreement. The packet says the county is continuing to recruit a permanent health officer, making the extension part of the county’s interim public-health staffing plan.

The agenda packet does not show whether the Board has already taken final action on the amendment, and it does not include any discussion changes to the proposed terms. The same committee meeting also includes other health and human services items, but the health officer contract extension is the clearest public-health governance action in the materials reviewed.
