Shasta County’s Board of Supervisors is scheduled to begin its Fiscal Year 2026-27 budget hearings Tuesday, June 9, with the county’s recommended general fund showing a $44.7 million shortfall.
According to the county’s FY 2026-27 budget hearing staff report, the recommended budget includes about $221 million in General Fund funding requirements against $176.3 million in revenue. Staff says the gap will be covered with fund balance carryover and reserve balances.
The hearing package also identifies three appealed budget units: Elections Budget (BU 140), Building Inspection Budget (BU 282), and Planning Budget (BU 286).
The staff report says budget revisions after the public hearing begins must be filed in writing with the Clerk of the Board before the hearing closes, unless the board approves them later by a four-fifths vote. The county is also working under a June 30 deadline for adoption of the 2026-27 budget.
