Ferndale’s City Council unanimously approved Resolution 2026-07 on June 17, authorizing emergency construction of kennels for animal control services.
According to the June 17 council packet, the city had been using Miranda’s Rescue for animal control and temporary animal housing. The city manager’s report says the kennel work is intended to keep impounded dogs housed locally while Ferndale transitions services.
The same report says donations were secured toward the project, which is estimated at about $14,000. The packet does not spell out the construction schedule, procurement method or whether the kennel project will fully cover interim housing needs.
Council also approved a separate resolution that adds a dog maintenance fee to the city’s fees and fines schedule, but the kennel approval itself was a discrete operational action tied to animal housing.
