The Yuba Water Agency Board of Directors is set to consider waiving an automatic 2.5% increase on project base supply charges for eight member units at its July 7 meeting, with staff tying the request directly to the Colgate Penstock incident and possible delivery shortfalls.
According to the July 7 agenda packet, the waiver would affect Brophy Water District, Browns Valley Irrigation District, Cordua Irrigation District, Dry Creek Mutual Water Company, Hallwood Irrigation Company, Ramirez Water District, South Yuba Water District and Wheatland Water District. Staff says the districts may have to pump groundwater at their own expense if deliveries are reduced, and that the substitute pumping could cost more than the scheduled rate increase.
The packet estimates the maximum fiscal impact of waiving the increase at $21,395.25, based on full delivery of 237,725 acre-feet. The estimate assumes the annual 2.5% increase on project base supply charges would otherwise take effect.
The same agenda also calls for the board to continue emergency contracting authority for Colgate Penstock repairs under Public Contract Code section 22050. The meeting is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. at the Yuba County Government Center Board Chambers in Marysville and then reconvene at 9:45 a.m. at Yuba Water Agency headquarters on F Street, where the remaining items are slated for closed session.
The record reviewed does not show whether directors approved the waiver or how they discussed it.
