Yuba City’s council unanimously approved a joint application with Habitat for Humanity Yuba/Sutter for up to $10 million in Homekey Plus funding for Merriment Village Phase 1, the first stage of the affordable housing project at 428 North Walton Avenue.

According to the council meeting summary, staff said the request is meant to help fill a financing gap for the 79-unit project, which is already under construction, and could replace a Five Star Bank line of credit while also supporting operating costs. The agenda packet identified the item as a resolution authorizing the joint application with Habitat for Humanity Yuba/Sutter, Inc. for Homekey+ funding.

The council approved the measure at its July 7 meeting. The meeting summary also says council members agreed to revive an ad hoc committee to keep tabs on the project with Habitat and the contractor.

The city is seeking the state funding through the Homekey Plus program, administered by the state Department of Housing and Community Development.

A final award amount and timing have not been announced in the materials reviewed.
