Sutter County’s Agriculture, Public Protection and General Government Committee is weighing a request to increase the Agricultural Commissioner’s FY 2025-26 services-and-supplies budget by $52,258, offset by higher State Aid for Agriculture revenue, according to the May 18 committee packet.
The staff report says the department collected $544,243.61 in Pesticide Mill Assessment revenue this fiscal year, compared with $425,000 budgeted, leaving $119,243.61 in unanticipated revenue. The item would use that money for communications, clothing and personal items, agricultural supplies, minor equipment, postage, outside printing, and maintenance and equipment costs.
The budget amendment, BT-2610000306, is listed as an increase appropriation and is shown in progress in the packet. The committee summary says the item requires a 4/5 vote, and the Board of Supervisors would still need to approve the amendment before any spending moves forward.
The packet’s support materials list specific proposed purchases and repairs, including carpet tile, HVAC replacement, fencing repair, a pallet jack, an ice machine, inspection forms, stamps, and replacement iPads. The report also notes that some of the spending may be eligible for partial Unclaimed Gas Tax reimbursement in a future fiscal year.
The same committee packet also includes a separate Human Resources item to rescind a county compensation rule to align with federal Fair Labor Standards Act regulations, along with a Library budget adjustment tied to California Department of Education grant revenue.
