Shasta County supervisors adopted Resolution No. 2026-040 on April 21, continuing the local emergency declared after the December 2025 winter storms.
The resolution says the storms damaged county roadways and that cleanup and repair work is still underway. It also says the circumstances that led to the emergency continue to exist.
Under the resolution, the county’s emergency powers and duties remain in effect until the Board of Supervisors formally terminates the emergency. The board also must review whether the emergency should continue at least every 60 days.
The document notes that the county’s director of emergency services first proclaimed the local emergency on Dec. 22, 2025, and that the board ratified that action on Dec. 29. It also says Gov. Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency on Dec. 24 for several counties, including Shasta County, and that Sheriff Michael L. Johnson sent a Jan. 5 letter seeking state and/or federal assistance, including California Disaster Assistance Act and Small Business Administration help.
The resolution directs that a copy be sent to Cal OES.
