Live Oak’s City Council is set to consider a major rewrite of the city’s nuisance enforcement rules at its Aug. 19 meeting.

According to the agenda for item 3, the council will hear an ordinance that would repeal and replace Live Oak Municipal Code Title 8, Chapter 8.24, and repeal Chapter 14, the Neighborhood and Community Preservation Program.

A staff report attached to the same packet says the update is meant to streamline enforcement, address delinquent nuisance cases and give the city stronger tools to deal with blight and other nuisance conditions. The draft ordinance would expand nuisance definitions, lay out notice and appeal procedures, and create a more formal administrative process.

The staff report also lists new administrative citation penalties of $100 for a first violation, $200 for a second and $500 for a third and subsequent violation. It would also set a $300 initial appeal fee and a $950 appeal hearing fee.

The agenda packet does not show whether the council voted to introduce the ordinance or approve any fee changes at the meeting. The item is listed as a public hearing, so the council’s action will need to be tracked when minutes or adopted ordinance text become available.
