Arcata officials discussed a possible renewal of Measure G on May 6, with staff saying the city could seek voter approval again on the Nov. 3, 2026 ballot and pair it with an advisory measure tied to state road funding.

Finance Director Nature Catchery reported that Measure G is a three-quarter-cent sales tax approved by voters with more than 63.5% support and set to expire March 31, 2029. He said the tax has generated about $39 million since 2009, with roughly $21.5 million spent on streets and $17.5 million on public safety.

The staff update framed Measure G as a key source of local money for streets and police. Officials said the proposed advisory measure would be intended to help the city leverage additional road funds under SB1. Council did not take action on the report.

The Measure G discussion came during a meeting where the council also adopted the Humboldt County Regional Climate Action Plan as Arcata’s climate plan and approved emergency culvert repair spending at 4700 West End Road.

Measure G revenue has supported street work, including the US 101 and Sunset Improvement Project, according to the staff report discussed at the meeting.
