The Assembly Human Services Committee advanced SB 1077 on June 16, sending the bill to Appropriations on a 7-0 vote, according to the committee hearing summary and vote record.
The bill would require the California Department of Social Services to prepare a communications and contingency plan for CalFresh disruptions during federal shutdowns. In committee, the measure was grouped with other anti-poverty and safety-net bills moving through the hearing.
The hearing summary said SB 1077 is intended to address federal shutdown-related interruptions in CalFresh, the state’s food-assistance program. It also said supporters included the California Association of Food Banks, the County Welfare Directors Association and the League of California Cities.
The committee’s action sends the bill to the Assembly Appropriations Committee for further review.
